Nintendo 3DS XL
Like the Nintendo DSi in its time, it also passes the 3DS XL version,The best handheld Game Console with screens almost twice as large. A great opportunity to revive a console that had a difficult start and a decrease of historical price, less than five months after its release. What also attract new players and even, why not try the owners of the first 3DS.
Larger screens returning to the level of competition
Between the PlayStation Vita and its 5-inch screen and screens of ever more players and larger smartphones, which are rapidly approaching the diagonal (4.7 inches on the HTC One X and even 4.8 on the Samsung Galaxy S3 ) even exceed (5.3 inch Samsung Galaxy Note), Nintendo had to offer screens of similar size to its 3DS XL. Mission accomplished, as the top screen (format 5: 3) reached 4.88 inches (12.4 cm), against 4.18 inches (10.6 cm) to the lower screen (4: 3).
However, the definition of these two screens do not change, so you do not have to change the hardware of the console and do not impact the game display. The upper display remains in 800 x 240 pixels (400 x 240 per eye in 3D). As a direct result, everything is bigger on the 3DS XL, we gain in comfort but also we see a lot more pixels and jaggies (aliasing).
PS Vita does not suffer from this problem with a definition of 960 x 544 pixels (2.72 times compared to the 3DS XL) and an anti-aliasing on most games. This may shock at a time when the display finesse becomes so important that we can not distinguish the pixels with the naked eye (Retina displays to Apple for example). While approaching or resolutions now exceed 300 dpi on mobile devices, the 3DS XL is limited to a low 95 dpi (118 on the 3DS) 2D!
The second analog stick still missing!
The biggest disappointment of the 3DS XL is the lack regrettable incomprehensible the right analog stick. But added to the 3DS Circle Pad Pro via the accessory, Nintendo has again passed on that second stick for its new console, despite the space savings that would ease insertion. If one suspects that all games will not use it, it is still almost indispensable in shooter games where you must simultaneously control the aiming and movement (Resident Evil Revelations, etc.).
The interface is the same as the "little 3DS" and one does not complain (see the test of the 3DS for details). However, both still image sensors are bad, it's a shame that Nintendo has not seen fit to integrate better.
Autonomy up but still no removable battery
While the 3DS little longer standing than 3:15 under conditions of use 'normal' (3D, sound and brightness to half), the 3DS XL reaches about 6 hours under the same conditions! If you disable 3D, then you win 1:15. Autonomy is higher than on PS Vita.
A good choice compared to the first 3DS
Ultimately, the 3DS XL 3DS surpasses the first, thanks to the comfort provided by its wide screens and taken in hand more enjoyable. Its range is up significantly. However, the most nomadic players may find it too cumbersome, just like a PS Vita that does not creep into any pocket. 3DS remains of news since has the same capacity to play a few dollars less, charger and charging cradle included! Hopefully next Nintendo handheld finally adopt the second analog stick so lacking in both 3DS.
The new PS3 Super Slim formalized in 12 and 250 GB
At the Tokyo Game Show, Sony recently formalized its new PlayStation 3 "super slim", even more compact and less expensive than the version "slim" current.
It was no secret that the new PS3 is a reality today unveiled its lines and features. The console and 25% more compact and 20% lighter than the version "slim" current. Access to the Blu-Ray is now done from above, with a sliding cover that replaces the system of "snap disc" (slot-in) used previously. What probably bring down the cost of production and therefore the final price of the console.
The PSThree comes in three versions and two colors (black and white), it is sold with a DualShock controller 3. The cheapest version is displayed 229.99 euros and includes an internal memory of 12 GB (SSD) which can be supplemented with an internal hard drive (format 2.5 "SATA).
The other model is a team of 500 GB hard drive and will be sold with the game FIFA 13 from September 28 in France, while the 12GB variant will come to us from October 12.
Sony took the opportunity to announce the release of new games at low cost (14.99 and 19.99 euros) in the PS3 Essentials range
PlayStation Vita
For the fans. The PlayStation Vita, Sony's new toy, officially released Wednesday, February 22 in France. Seven years after introducing the PSP that has elapsed in the world at more than 73 million copies, the Japanese electronics giant is trying to revive a market transformed by the rise of smartphones and tablets. HuffPost could test it for you.
For Sony, the release of the PS Vita is an opportunity to highlight their differences. Compared with the offer on iOS and Android platforms that grows and diversifies, the Japanese brand wants to play the quality card.
Stand out from the competition and other "home"
Its launch in Japan in December, was to validate the brand strategy. But the Vita is not yet met with enthusiasm and hoped the Japanese players do not seem to make their priority console. We count a little over 600,000 copies sold on the archipelago since its release, a figure that highlights the difficulties of integration of this new object on a congested market.
Direct competition with the Nintendo 3DS and smartphones, PS Vita even wants to differentiate itself from the PSP, PSP Street renamed and redirected 6-12 of pool. Several official statements highlight the features of the console that correspond to the wishes of fans of multimedia entertainment more than those of a casual consumer of digital Scrabble or Angry Birds. After several tens of minutes to grip, here are the salient features that we have chosen:
The two analog joysticks. To counter the digital tablets, Sony decided to put two joysticks (instead of one) and several buttons. This gives the impression of a familiar DualShock PS3 controller and can facilitate grip for some regulars.
The rear touch pad. The major innovation. On the back of the console must multiply the possibilities of movement of the user's fingers and actually increase the functionality of the game when publishers take into account the existence of the pad.
The triggers. If [L2] and [R2], the gates of the PS3 controllers, are still not present, the contribution of these two triggers on the Vita and accessibility satisfy the players.
The "Sixaxis" system. The term refers to the movement sensor in the console. This device allows it to detect the rotational orientation of the three dimensional axes offering interesting new form of manipulation although difficult in transport.
The OLED screen. 5-inch touchscreen, the OLED screen makes typing with his fingers on the keyboard of the Vita. People who like to edit football teams in FIFA must already celebrate the first victory on the life around a campfire.
The camera "augmented reality". Available for purchase, maps allow you to download mini-games to use the system of "augmented reality". With these specific cards, Vita's cameras can for example see the user's environment, fit the screen and serve decor.
The interface of the PS Vita and PlayStation ergonomics combine elements of smartphones finds. The handheld offers a lot of applications that appear as bubbles on the screen and can be moved in the manner of icons and other tablets.
Among its applications (some are free to download from the PlayStation Store), there is a "bubble" camera and film, a "bubble" music, a "bubble" video player, an Internet browser and the icons of each game.
However, clearly highlighting feature is the notion of community. PS Vita has three applications that allow the user to make games buddies, discuss with them or to exchange goodies recovered over the digital adventure
Near. The Vita players geolocation service should encourage the sharing of information and data between users and their virtual meeting. It allows, as on the Nintendo 3DS Street Pass and its mode of who plays what among his friends or the people present in range of Wi-Fi.
Party. The application allows you to communicate with friends via Vita met via the Playstation Network or Near, voice and text chat which then gives the opportunity to join multiplayer games and crack the margoulette together.
Group Messaging. Mail PlayStation Network. To send messages between users.
In wanting to create their own user community, the PS Vita will not however forget the basics with social networking applications available for download (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Foursquare and Skype), available in March.
Memory Card and 3G case features
To play with his PS Vita, it is imperative to bring a memory card. The Vita is not a hard drive and to safeguard its parts, as to store its games, especially if purchased via the PlayStation Store, the user will have to spend between 20 and 50 euros depending on the size of the card. (Three sizes: 4, 8 or 16 Giga). The player can still store its games on the PS3 or computer (PC or Mac), compatible with the Vita through a USB port.
Critics point to a slightly lighter battery life for handheld pushed forward. (Specialized sites talk 4 hours of actual game). The price of the machine (to which must be added to the minima of a game and a memory card to enjoy a minimum) may seem prohibitive. Sony seems to have understood and already looking to win the hearts of users who possess a home console to perhaps offer the Vita version of the game at the time of buying the console version (say PS3).
Nintendo 2DS
Announced last August, Nintendo has surprised more than one person with its new console, the Nintendo 2DS. Just announced, stupor was the rendezvous. Some saw this ad as a joke, others wanted to already get their hands on this latest addition to the Japanese company.
With its sleek design, its features and its low price, is that Nintendo is going too far out on a new model of DS? With the collaboration of Nintendo Canada that we could test the console in order to have a clearer view.
Technical features of the Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS range
In its announcement, Nintendo has integrated its new console in what form now 3DS family. For you there, here is the data sheet of the three consoles including Nintendo 2DS:
A handheld ... somewhat low end in its appearance.
Like most recent handheld Nintendo sold their first date, Nintendo 2DS comes in a choice of two colors. In its announcement it had to come in blue and black as well as red and white but eventually the two colors are officially with black. The color is only visible on the sides of the console and a fine line in the middle of the back of it. Otherwise, a charcoal gray color on top and black underneath, brings nothing extraordinary visually.
The finish is reminiscent of the Wii Mini. On a hard, lightweight plastic, it prevents scratches the Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL unfortunately can not avoid. This can be useful when the console is used by young children. Still, it is a bit cheap, like the Wii Mini. Oddly, the Nintendo Wii Mini 2DS and form a perfect duo, especially with the red 2DS with color and aspect. It is clear that the first model of the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL are of much better quality on the finish and overall appearance. Whatever minimalist, many people may shun the Nintendo 2DS because of it.
At first glance, the console looks a bit naked. Indeed, since the circular pad, directional pad and control buttons are located on the upper end, this leaves a vacuum effect. The other models do not give this feeling because they can be folded in half which is not the case for Nintendo 2DS.
When you fold the other models (when they are on), they fall into sleep mode. As this can not be the case with the 2DS, so there was a sleep button added to the console. The pen, blue or red, is always present on the right side of the console, but oddly it shows resistance to be removed from its location.
For the rest, the Nintendo 2DS has the same menu "home" than other Nintendo 3DS. A 4GB SD card is included and can be changed without problem by SD card with a capacity.
Nintendo 2DS: a console that plays 3D games without 3D
The quality and one of the main arguments of the Nintendo 2DS is that it can play DS games more 3DS games. However, the 3D option is not present on it hence its name. This decision is a bit strange since, despite that many games do not really exploit the effect that the 3D Nintendo 3DS offers, although others can as Super Mario 3D Land in which certain levels may require to enable the 3D effect.
Button "3D" that have the 3DS is not on 2DS. The "home" button is always below the bottom screen, but the buttons "start" and "select" were moved under the A, B, X, Y. The change is far from major but can confuse people used to the handling of the 3DS.
If players are playing a DS game on a Nintendo 3DS, the picture quality is lower due to better graphics capability of the 3DS console. The screen returns to the 2DS quality to that of a standard Nintendo DS. It is with great appreciation that we can play DS and 3DS games with the same visual quality on the screen.
A nice grip, but not for all
The grip is somewhat different from other Nintendo DS or 3DS. Since the console does not bend the L and R buttons are at the top of the upper screen and fall well under the fingers in my case. For other consoles, they are behind the lower display. Despite its light weight and a weight equivalent to the standard 3DS, it remains that the grip may prove difficult for players with smaller hands. The size of the 2DS and is equivalent to the same size as the original 3DS.
