New Family of Motorola Moto X : Moto X Style and Moto X Play Review

It is a small page that turns at Motorola. It can no longer count on a single product in the Moto X series, this year called Moto X third generation, but now two new devices: Moto X Style and a Moto X Play. We are interested here in the first of the two, the largest but also the most expensive.

Moto X Style was more or less known even before its announcement: expected more or less the successor to the Nexus 6, and this is the case. Because if the smartphone does not rise up to 6 inches diagonal, it offers still a (LCD) 5.7 inch display which, even though its borders are fine, make motorcycle Style a true phablette.

Because if the plump appearance of the first Moto X ensured good (small) hand grip, Moto X Style, retaining this family trait, is particularly impressive. He indeed exceeds the 11 mm thick (on its more domed part) and weighs no less than 179 grams.

In short, this is not the kind of phone that you be hauling in your trouser pocket and forget sitting, and one begins to regret that Motorola has not chosen to fully review its design codes.

Wood, leather, moto maker

Its finish, she is quite convincing. In contrast to the Moto X Play, the Style does not have a battery or a removable shell, but offers extensive customization options.

Basic, it is equipped with a nice textured gum turnkey hull, but with the moto  Maker service, it can take a shell in various shades of wood or, like last year, leather. Small detail all the same: If the screen is slightly rounded on the sides, which is very nice in hand, the various models that we could try hung slightly the finger on the side. It is a pity, even if not frankly annoying.

On the other hand, on top of the phone, the trolley dedicated to the SIM card is also home to a port for microSD card, although the phone is available in 16, 32 and 64 GB: there want to say 'Finally '. This screen, let's talk about it: great, it did in sports no less a very high definition (of the qhd display, 1440 x 2560 pixels) on its 5.7-inch diagonal. Its borders are thin and the display quality is at the rendezvous.

Indoors, and even if Motorola handles to perfection diplomacy ("there is no problem with the 810″ Snapdragon, it told us), it is good for the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 combined with 3 GB of RAM, that is precisely the configuration selected by LG for the G4, as the brand has opted.

Can only join, wherever it is found that when benchmarks (we did have time to launch than AnTuTu who book a score of 49 000 points), it does not particularly warm. It is also a light layer of software, with a 'pure Android' experience based on the Lollipop 5.1.1 with the promise of an update next to Android M.

There are the usual tools of Motorola: Display, Assist or Migrate, the great classics that Motorola regulars are familiar. On this side, we will be reassured to see that the integration of Motorola to Lenovo has not changed much.

A Moto X Camera?

For the rest, good surprise are looking at the multimedia aspect of the Moto X Style. Motorola promises to actually to be amended on the question of photography, and relies on a solid duo: it is indeed equipped with a photo sensor back 21 megapixels and a 5 megapixel front sensor, combined with an LED flash.

A rarity on the high-end smartphones that, combined with a wide angle sensor, allows to obtain the suitable quality of night selfies. On the back, the outbreak is fast and if the processing is pushed, the details are slightly less extensive than a Galaxy S6, which the sensor is yet 16-Megapixel.

In other words, if Motorola has improved, it may not yet quite arrived at the level of the masters of the genre. Note that the interface of its photo app has not changed, with possibility to make photos in HDR, save them directly on the microSD and other settings. In contrast, still no release but button touch triggering that can annoy.

The last thing to take into account the autonomy of this Moto X Style appearance. While the Moto X Play on a XXL 3630 mAh battery, need here rely on a battery of 3000 mAh rather consistent, and associated with a technology developed to accelerate the load of the appliance, Turbo Charge. In the spirit of the Qualcomm's QuickCharge - technology that Motorola could be relied--Turbo Charge promises a third of charge in 15 minutes.

Our first impressions on this XXL format

With his XXL format clearly reminiscent to the Nexus 6, this Moto X Style may appeal as much to put off. It is big, very big, and made run counter to current trends, seeking instead the finesse and lightness.

Yet, its advantages are many, starting with its simple software layer, its very nice screen (the angles of vision and colors are at first sight excellent), its now expandable memory and net Motorola efforts in the field of multimedia.

For its price set at 499 EUR 16 GB and moto Maker, it offers a good quality-price ratio, even taking to regret that he avoids fingerprint reader and manual modes are absent from its application photography.

Smartphone without compactness and phablette without stylus, this Moto X Style, so "stylish", lies between two waters and will have to convince, argue its tariff position to not turn into simple image product.
